Prince of Peace

A Mission of the Progressive Christian Alliance

The Progressive Church where ALL are welcome

Re-visioning Church

Prince of Peace is not your typical church. Prince of Peace is likely nothing like the church of your mother or father.

Our message is one of grace and inclusivity. An inclusivity that is not respective of social status, race, economic standing, sexual orientation or even previous religious experience.

Because of this explicit position of radical inclusivity, we find ourselves growing more and more distant from the exclusive doctrines and dogma of "mainstream christianity".

It seems, in many respects that we bear no small resemblance to the church of our history:

In the first century C.E., the followers of Jesus found themselves in an peculiar situation. Whereas at first, they were seen as proponents of the Jewish faith, and even worshiped alongside those more traditional Jews; in following the teachings of Jesus as they understood them, they began to diverge from the mainstream. As time passed, they even became unwelcome in the synagogues of their youth, and were, in essence, forced underground by the mainstream church.

Thankfully, the story does not end there. Those brave proponents of "The Way" as they were known, continued worshipping, studying and breaking bread together in their own homes, welcoming more and more like-minded individuals.

This movement which became known as Christianity continued to grow until it was blessed with sufficient numbers to stand on it own and emerge to take it's place in the world.

There are many in our age who have become unable to reconcile the faith of their youth with the gained experience and knowledge of their lives. Sadly, many have abandoned faith completely. Many more continue to attend services, if only periodically; and keep their own questions and misgivings silent.

Prince of Peace is a community of those who have been "left behind" by the mainstream church, as well as those fr whom "church as usual" has become irrelevant. We aim to provide a safe haven where questions and differing opinions are not only tolerated but encouraged. See a world that does not seem to fit in the narrow confines dictated by the institutional church? Come join us. Let us grow together to be a force for good, a catalyst of change.

Prince of Peace is a home-based church. We stand in awe of, and seek to emulate those spiritual forebears with the courage to stand in the gaps left by the religious institutions of their day.

We worship at 4 Lanier Place in Anniston, Alabama at 5:00 PM on Sundays. The coffee pot is also on on Wednesday evenings at the same location. Feel free to stop by for coffee and stimulating conversation.

Do you seek a community where sincerity of heart and unity of purpose matter far more than orthodoxy of belief?

We seek to reach out to those for whom organized religion has proved ineffectual, irrelevant, or repressive, as well as to those who have given up on or are unacquainted with it.

We uphold evangelism as an agent of justice and peace.

We strive to give a strong voice both in the churches and the public arena to the advocates of progressive Christianity.

We support those who embrace the search, not certainty.

What else is there that seperates us from mainstream Christianity?

1) the belief that human nature in its present condition is neither inherently corrupt nor depraved, but exactly as God created it and intended it to be from the beginning, capable of both good and evil;

2) the conviction that no religion has a monopoly on holy spirit or theological truth;

3) the belief that the Bible, while inspired of God, is written by humans and therefore subject to human error;

4) the rejection of traditional doctrines that malign God’s character or veil the true nature and mission of Jesus, such as the doctrines of predestination, eternal damnation, the Trinity, and the vicarious sacrifice or satisfaction theory of the Atonement.

Re-Visioning church? Or perhaps Re-Claiming church?
